Season’s Greetings from the Bishop's Meadow Trust!
We end the year with a few images of the meadow and we wish our members a very Merry Christmas and New Year and a BIG thank you for the continued support.
Footpath repair works
Surrey County Council Highways have completed the works on the public footpath on to the meadows.
The contractor resurfaced the footpath from the south end to the start of the wooden bridge and leveled into a concrete dish channel which will run along one side. The work seems to have been successful - the disruption worth it! - and hopefully will prevent the footpath from flooding.
Cows on the meadows
It has been lovely having cows return to the meadows this year and we had the successful installation of the new fencing.
The grazing helps open up gaps in thick grass sward and allows a wider range of more delicate plants to develop and seed into the bare patches, enhancing the diversity of the Meadow – we look forward to how this will have helped the meadows going into 2025. In the meantime, as our weather seems to be ever changing the cows have been taken away till the chance of the winter flooding has decreased
We wanted to share the lovely video created by Allan Arthurs this summer of the cattle happily in the fields and the layout of the new fencing.
