But before the cattle can return the Trust needs to spend money on reinforcing and renewing some of the original fence and gate posts that where put in to create the wildlife areas.
During the drought of last year the clay shrunk to the extent that the fence and gate posts are loose in the ground and the wire slack. As we all know cattle always look for the greener grass on the other side of the fence (they made two successful breakouts last year) so before they come back the work needs to happen.
You can help the Trust by volunteering to help with work on the meadows.
It’s planned to take place over several days from 30th January to 1st February, weather permitting.
We are using a local farming contractor with his tractor and equipment to put the posts in and I have been asked to provide volunteers who can help with the work.
The Trust will be buying all volunteers special cut resistant gloves which you can take home with you.
Please let me know your hand size and what days you can come and help me.
